Army Confirms New Orleans Terrorist Suspect Served in Army, Reserves

The Army confirmed Wednesday that New Orleans terror suspect Shamsuddin Jabbar served in the Army and Army Reserve until 2020.

In a statement sent to the press, he said:

Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar served in the Regular Army as a Human Resources Specialist (42A) and Information Technology (IT) Specialist (25B) from March 2007 to January 2015, and as an IT Specialist (25B) from January 2015. I was in the reserve. He was deployed to Afghanistan from February 2009 to January 2010. He held the rank of General Staff. A sergeant who has completed his military service.

Jabbar, 42, is accused of driving his car into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans around 3:15 a.m. CST on New Year's Day, killing at least 15 people and injuring others.

The FBI said in a statement that the suspect was driving an apparently rented Ford pickup truck at the time of the attack, and that an ISIS flag was inside the vehicle.

The FBI is investigating his potential ties or ties to terrorist organizations, the bureau said.

He said there were weapons and possible IEDs in Jabbar's car and other possible improvised explosive devices in the French Quarter.

“FBI Special Agent Bomb Technicians are working with our law enforcement partners to determine whether any of these devices are viable and will work to make them safe.” Ta.
