The mother of a murdered Army veteran son in New York blasted Manhattan’s Democratic District Attorney Alvin Bragg at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday for letting the “homicidal maniac” who killed her son go free.
“My son was stabbed and killed in New York City during a Taliban attack,” Madeline Brame said of her son, the late Sergeant Hasson Correa.
Brehm said those responsible for his son’s death “initially received justice,” but “that changed with the election of District Attorney Alvin Bragg.”
Her son, a 35-year-old Afghanistan War veteran, was beaten and stabbed to death by a group of four during a fight outside their Harlem apartment six years ago.
Brehm blasted Bragg’s “soft on crime” approach.
“The charges of gang assault and murder against the two homicidal maniacs responsible for my son’s death have been completely dismissed,” she said.
“Alvin Bragg accused her of assault with a shoe,” she raged, referring to one of Correa’s attackers.
In 2022, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office reduced and dismissed charges against two of the four criminals responsible for the deadly attack: Christopher Sanders, James Sanders, Mary Sanders and Travis Stewart.
Christopher and James Sanders were both convicted of gang assault and are serving 20-year sentences, while Travis Stewart was sentenced to seven years for the same offense.
Mary Sanders served 14 months at Rikers Island and was released in May 2022 after completing her sentence.
Brehm has previously alleged that Bragg’s office treated her and her family “like garbage” when prosecuting her son’s attacker.
“He wants to empty our prisons and put violent criminals back on the streets every day,” Mr. Blum said of Mr. Bragg in a speech at the Fiserv Forum, where former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance, listened in a VIP box.
Bragg is best known for fighting the hush-money lawsuit against Trump in Manhattan, which led to Trump’s conviction on 34 felony counts earlier this year.
Trump, 78, is awaiting sentencing in a hush-money case.
Brehm called Trump “a victim of the same corrupt system that he has been dealing with.”
“Donald Trump shares our values,” Brehm said.
“Love of God, family and country.”
