Arne Slot concentrating on the players Liverpool will retain after Alexander-Arnold.

Slot Looks to Address Alexander-Arnold’s Departure

Arne Slot is aiming to turn the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold into a positive for Liverpool, as the right-back is set to leave Merseyside on a free transfer to Real Madrid this summer. This means the Dutch head coach faces the challenge of finding a suitable replacement for him.

Conor Bradley is expected to start in the Premier League match against Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday, as the title has already been secured and preparations for next season are underway. Slot will likely need someone from outside the club to compete with the Northern Ireland international for the right-back position.

“If given the choice, you’d want Trent to stay,” Slot mentioned. “I won’t overhaul everything, but there are differences in the performances of Connor, Joe Gomez, and Curtis Jones. I’m focusing on the qualities we have in our team, as Connor offers something different compared to Trent.”

Slot added, “Having new players can also bring a fresh energy, much like what I experienced last season. There’s really no reason to dwell negatively on changes.”

Among the three players whose contracts were up, it’s clear that Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk will stay with Liverpool. “I wanted all three to remain,” Slot noted. “It’s a bit disheartening that one has chosen to leave, but I’m very pleased that Virgil and Mo are extending their contracts.”

This Sunday’s match could significantly impact the title race, but Arsenal, currently in second place, has struggled to keep pace with Liverpool. Slot commented on his rival, Mikel Arteta:

“They can shut down set pieces, defend with low blocks, dominate matches, press high, build from the back, and execute long balls. They excel in every aspect of the game.”
