On Friday, U.S. District of Columbia Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced that a woman has been charged for vandalizing a World War II monument in Washington, D.C.
Pirro’s office stated that they have brought forward two felony charges against Melissa L. Farris, which could result in a maximum of 10 years in prison. Currently, Farris is in custody. This follows reports that the monument had been defaced with spray paint and foam, as noted by NBC4 Washington.
“The destruction of the World War II Memorial is a despicable attack on a sacred monument honoring Americans who died fighting for our freedom,” Pirro expressed on social media. She added a personal touch, mentioning, “Those Americans include my father and grandfather.”
President Donald Trump reacted on Truth social media, labeling the act an insult to American heroes. He remarked that the World War II memorial has suffered from vandalism and emphasized the significance of the site. “First the reflecting pool, then this. We are following in their footsteps! Where did these animals come from??” he questioned.
The U.S. Department of the Interior also condemned the vandalism, referring to it as an “utter disgrace.” They mentioned in a statement that the World War II Memorial is a sacred site dedicated to military personnel and the over 400,000 Americans who lost their lives during the war. Furthermore, the department assured that the act of vandalism is unacceptable and that U.S. Park Police are investigating the incident.
