Mr. Rice’s attorney, Royce West, told reporters last week that Mr. Rice was behind the wheel of a Lamborghini SUV that was involved in a crash that injured four people, including Mr. Rice’s Corvette. He said he admitted it to authorities.
“He’s a young man who made mistakes,” West told reporters.
He added that Rice will “do everything in our power to get their lives back to as normal as possible in terms of injuries and property damage.”
Kyle Coker, the company’s attorney, said the Lamborghini was listed as being rented by the Chiefs wideout in Classic Lifestyle magazine.
The driver of the Corvette, Theodore Knox, also faces similar charges as Rice, the TV station said.
The accident occurred on northbound Interstate 75 around 6:30 p.m. local time, when both the Corvette and Lamborghini were speeding and lost control, resulting in an accident involving six vehicles.
The six occupants of the two vehicles left the scene, and marijuana was found in both vehicles, along with credit cards, checks, a diamond chain and a Chiefs playbook, according to a police report.
Two people were taken to the hospital as a result of this accident.
Rice said in a statement last week that he is cooperating with Dallas police in their investigation and “takes full responsibility for my role in this matter.”
“We sincerely apologize to everyone affected,” he said.
The NFL and the Chiefs previously said they were monitoring the situation.
