Panarin Hits 900 Points in Rangers’ Win Against Senators

OTTAWA, Ontario — As Artemi Panarin scored into an empty net for a 4-2 victory over the Senators at the Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday, the Rangers’ bench erupted in celebration, prompting a puzzled Panarin to ask why. He wasn’t aware that the goal marked his 900th point in 11 seasons.

“We’re glad about that, but we’re also happy for the win,” he remarked after achieving two consecutive multi-point games. “It’s nice to see those numbers, especially when it contributes to a win. But honestly, I had no clue.”

At 34 years old, Panarin is now the sixth undrafted player since the 1963-64 season to achieve 900 points in fewer than 800 games.

Thursday night marked Panarin’s 781st game. He has recently been on fire, with 10 points in his last six games and leading the Rangers this season with 30 points.

“I’m not surprised,” said head coach Mike Sullivan. “He’s a unique talent. He drives our offense in diverse ways, seeing plays develop ahead of others. His scoring talent is undeniable, but his playmaking is, I think, somewhat underrated. Being close to that talent has amplified my appreciation.”

“He’s been instrumental in guiding the team’s offense, both at even strength and during power plays,” Sullivan added.

Meanwhile, Igor Shesterkin recorded his 12th win this season, stopping 25 of 27 shots. Backup Jonathan Quick, who remains on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury, traveled with the team but didn’t play. Spencer Martin stepped in as Shesterkin’s backup for the second consecutive game.

Defender Braden Schneider, filling in for the injured Adam Fox, ranks fifth among NHL defensemen in hits with 64. He’s also one of only four players to have at least 60 hits and 40 blocks this season.

“Schneid’s core strength lies in his defense,” Sullivan noted. “He’s mobile and has a physical edge. He effectively takes away time and space from opponents, and his agility allows him to be aggressive against rushes. That’s when he plays his best.”

In a milestone moment, Rangers captain JT Miller played in his 400th game with the team, impressively notching three assists for his first three-point game this season.
