Victor Glover, an astronaut from the Artemis II mission, expressed his deep gratitude to God during a recent public appearance. His comments followed the crew’s impressive return from a journey that took them to the far side of the moon, marking the furthest point humans have traveled from Earth.
Speaking at an event in Houston, Glover reflected on the incredible experiences of the mission, which included traveling over 200,000 miles from our planet. He said, “I wanted to thank God publicly. The gratitude I feel for seeing what we saw, and being with those people—it’s too big to just be in one body.” These remarks were the first from the crew since their historic trip, which emphasized both the technical challenges and the emotional impact they experienced.
Glover admitted he hadn’t fully processed the enormity of the mission, noting, “I’m scared to even try because I haven’t processed what we did yet.” The astronauts shared their feelings about their journey and the challenges of being so far from home, with Commander Reid Wiseman stating, “We are forever bound together… it was the most special thing to happen in my life.” He acknowledged the unseen struggles their families faced while they were away.
Mission Specialist Christina Koch discussed how the trip deepened her understanding of teamwork, emphasizing that crew members make significant sacrifices for one another. She poetically expressed, “Earth was a veritable lifeboat hanging quietly in space… Earth, you are the crew.” Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen also reflected on the human aspect of the mission, highlighting the strong support system behind them.
Last week, Glover gained attention on social media for framing his role in Artemis II as part of “human history” rather than focusing solely on racial milestones. He noted that while representation is significant, the mission transcends individual identities, saying, “This is about human history. It’s not black history or women’s history. But it becomes human history.” This perspective resonated with many, emphasizing the broader significance of their achievements.
