Cuomo Criticizes Mayoral Opponent on Podcast
Andrew Cuomo recently took aim at his mayoral opponent Zoran Mamdani during an appearance on Logan Paul’s podcast, where he accused Mamdani of being a privileged individual dabbling in politics.
The 34-year-old congressman from Queens likened entering politics to “getting in the ring with Mike Tyson in his prime,” acknowledging that, though he’s inexperienced, one must adapt quickly. “This is New York City. You have to know what you’re doing,” he emphasized.
Cuomo, 67, elaborated on the serious stakes involved in decision-making, stating, “It’s life or death. If you don’t make the right decisions, you die.”
Running as an independent, Cuomo criticized the Democratic candidate who aims to be the second-youngest mayor in the city, pointing out that Mamdani has never managed more than a handful of people. “He’s never done a proper job,” Cuomo remarked.
Cuomo pointed out Mamdani’s affluent background, detailing his life growing up in a “palace in Uganda” before moving to a Manhattan penthouse and attending an expensive private school.
“He’s a product of wealth. He never had to work,” Cuomo said. He charged that Mamdani had only passed three bills during his time in the legislature while having the lowest attendance record.
Cuomo, who resigned as governor in 2021 amid allegations he denies, also scrutinized Mamdani’s brief stint in rap, acknowledging that his engaging social media presence had resonated with younger voters.
“He was great on TikTok. He connected with the younger generation,” Cuomo noted, recalling the primary election in which he lost to Mamdani.
Reflecting on Mamdani’s policy ideas, Cuomo dismissed them as overly simplistic. “A lot of people don’t get to the point,” he said regarding the general political landscape.
Despite criticizing Mamdani’s privileged upbringing, Cuomo didn’t shy away from discussing his own family legacy, crediting his father, former Governor Mario Cuomo, for his political ascent.
During the podcast, which also touched on the Cuomo family heritage, Paul reminisced about the public’s fascination with their lives and acknowledged the notable achievements of Cuomo’s brother, Chris Cuomo, during his time with CNN.
The episode concluded with a mix of reflections on their high-profile lives and the challenges faced along the way. A request for a response from Mamdani’s team has been made.
