Ashlee Jenae's cause of death revealed as suicide

Tragic Death of Influencer Ashley Jenae Confirmed as Suicide

The cause of Ashley Jenae’s death, a social media influencer from New Jersey, has been confirmed as suicide. According to police, this followed a heated argument with her fiancé at a luxury resort in Tanzania.

Local police chief Zuberi Chembera shared with the press that, “Through witness statements and analysis of communication devices belonging to the deceased and her fiancé, it was established she was experiencing mental distress.” This information was reported by a Tanzanian news agency.

Chembera also noted that SMS messages revealed Jenae expressed numerous complaints regarding her living conditions. The 31-year-old was in Zanzibar, where she was vacationing with her fiancé, Joe McCann, 45, at the time of her death in April.

Following a serious argument on April 8, hotel staff moved Jenae, whose real name is Ashley Robinson, and McCann to separate villas. This was just two days after they checked in.

According to police, staff conducting a routine check discovered her hanging in an unlit room just before 9 PM that night. They entered her new villa using a master key and heard a sudden thud.

Investigators said she fashioned a noose from a robe belt and a clothing rail provided by the hotel.

No additional information regarding the nature of the couple’s argument has been released, and the Zanzibar police have closed their investigation.

Jenae and McCann had been together for roughly a year, and he had proposed two days before her birthday during their trip.

Robinson was sharing aspects of her trip on social media and was in consistent contact with her parents up until April 8, when communication abruptly stopped. In her last conversation, she informed her parents about the couple’s severe fights, which led to their separation in the hotel.

The day after her death, McCann contacted her parents to convey that their daughter had “done something to herself,” but was not specific about what had happened.

Robinson passed away later that day. The cause of death was ruled as cerebral hypoxia due to strangulation and asphyxiation.

McCann, who was questioned but not accused of any wrongdoing, spoke out publicly on May 5. This came after reports indicated he was not invited to Robinson’s funeral. In his heartfelt statement, he expressed profound sorrow over losing his “best friend” and shared aspirations they had for starting a family.

Despite the situation, McCann expressed sympathy for Robinson’s parents, who have not yet made a public statement since the investigation’s conclusion. They previously mentioned disbelief that their daughter would take her own life and have sought further answers from authorities.
