The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
First lady Ashley Biden made a slip of the tongue during a White House Pride Month event on Wednesday, which many likened to one of President Biden’s frequent gaffes and drew ridicule on social media.
“Too often, LGBTQ children grow up in homes that don’t accept them,” the 43-year-old social worker told the crowd on the White House South Lawn, speaking alongside his mother, First Lady Jill Biden, as he stressed the importance of children feeling “loved, accepted and supported.”
About a quarter of the way through her four-minute speech, Ashley Biden misused the terms widely accepted to describe sexual orientation and gender identity.
“LGBTC…” the eldest daughter appeared to say, but then she closed her eyes and regained consciousness.
“LGBTQ students have a right to be safe at school, at home and in their communities. Period,” she corrected.
Republicans and X-users were quick to mock the 81-year-old president’s daughter for the gaffe.
“LGB, what next?” the Republican National Committee’s RNC Research X account posted with a video of Ashley getting the acronym wrong.
Several social media users quipped that the hiccups must be hereditary.
“She’s the real Biden,” one X user claimed.
“Daughter takes after her father,” another person chimed in.
“Clearly it runs in the family,” another post by X read.
One person joked that maybe the White House was to blame for Ashley’s gaffe.
“They had the teleprompter set to ‘Biden,'” one Twitter user wrote.
The president did not attend the Pride Month celebrations and has been at Camp David in Maryland preparing for Thursday’s debate with former President Donald Trump.
In a brief speech, Ashley praised her father’s administration as “the most pro-equality administration in history.”
