Ashli Babbitt confronted him — now J6er ‘Helmet Boy’ is facing new charges

Arrest of January 6 Rioter in Virginia

Zachary Jordan Arum, involved in the January 6 riot that resulted in significant damage at the U.S. Capitol, has been arrested in Virginia. He is facing charges of felony robbery and destruction of property.

The 33-year-old from Centerville, Virginia, was previously pardoned by former President Donald Trump just months ago. Court records indicate that he was charged with robbery in Henrico County, located southeast of Richmond.

Arum is also charged with one count of entering a residence with the intent to commit robbery, a Class 3 felony that carries a potential sentence of five to twenty years in prison. Additionally, he faces a misdemeanor charge related to property damage valued at under $1,000, which could result in up to a year in jail.

A court hearing has been scheduled for June 24 at the Henrico General District Court.

Blaze News has filed a request under the Freedom of Information Act for a police report concerning Arum’s arrest. However, the Henrico Police Department declined the request, citing that the case remains under investigation.

Arum was a prominent figure during the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, where he infamously shattered a glass panel at the entrance door, narrowly avoiding a Capitol Police officer. He also assaulted other glass panels and earned the online moniker “Helmet Boy” for his actions.

Video evidence showed him using a black riot helmet to smash various glass surfaces, contributing to the chaos of the situation. According to a memo from the U.S. Department of Justice, Arum’s aggression significantly escalated the riot.

Following his arrest, he faced multiple charges, including assault and destruction of government property, leading to an eight-year prison sentence handed down by a U.S. District Judge. His initial conviction was overturned in light of a Supreme Court ruling.

During the riot, he displayed violent behavior and seemed to encourage unrest, famously shouting about needing a gun. His turbulent history includes substance abuse and psychiatric issues—details not previously shared with the authorities.

Arum’s mother disclosed that he had attempted suicide in college, leading to his admission to a psychiatric facility. His legal journey has seen considerable delays, with appeals ongoing. The broader implications and outcomes of his actions that day continue to unfold.
