Asphyxiation Ruled Out as Cause of Death for Ex-MLB Player Brett Gardner’s Son

Suffocation has been ruled out as the cause of death of former professional baseball player Brett Gardner's 14-year-old son.

Gardner reported the loss of his youngest child over the weekend. The family said Miller came down on the holidays with an unidentified illness that also loomed on several other families.

The family did not determine where the holiday was, but Costa Rican authorities confirmed that the family took leave there. And authorities ruled out the first previous findings of “suffocation caused by food poisoning related to food poisoning.”

Authorities now say the young man had no problems with his airways, CNN It has been reported.

Costa Rica judicial investigative police officer Juan Pablo Alvarado told the media that the first speculation was provided after the boy's body was found amidst vomiting. Alvarado added that his department is currently awaiting reports of toxicology to determine whether food poisoning is the cause of death.

The Gardners said in a statement that Miller “leaved us shortly after getting sick with several other families on vacation.”

“Miller is our beloved son and brother, and we still can't understand our lives without his infectious smile,” Brett and Jessica Gardner said of Miller. “He loved soccer, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and his friends. He lived his life to the fullest every day,” they wrote.

Gardner was drafted by the Yankees in the third round of the 2005 MLB Draft and remained with the team for the entire 14-year career. He was a member of the 2009 team that won the Yankees World Series and played in the 2015 All-Star Game. Yahoo Sports reported that he retired at the end of the 2021 season.
