Aspinall Triumphs Over Doby in Premier League Match
Nathan Aspinall secured a 6-1 victory against Chris Doby on Aberdeen’s Premier League night, bringing him closer to playoff contention.
Aspinall had a strong start, with early breaks that established his dominance over Doby, who had previously eliminated Littler to reach the final. Doby struggled with his throws, losing one in the sixth leg and missing two crucial darts at double before finally hitting Double 10.
This win places Aspinall four points ahead in fourth place and knocks Doby out of the competition. Now, Michael Van Gerwen must win on the final night in Sheffield to overtake him.
“I was very confident tonight. Maybe I lost my focus last week, but tonight feels different,” Aspinall reflected. “I wouldn’t say I played exceptionally, but I was composed, staying in the moment—my finishing was pretty sharp.”
Earlier, Littler managed to defeat world number one Luke Humphries in the quarterfinals, securing the top seed in London. However, Doby showcased impressive skills, initially taking a 3-1 and later a 4-2 lead in the semi-finals against Littler. Littler made a late push to force a final leg but ultimately faltered, missing a critical double six that would have kept him in the running.
Littler’s comeback victory over Humphries was notable—he had to battle through a tense final leg after being on the edge. With an impressive five legs in a row and an average of almost 116, he had Humphries facing a tough challenge, despite Humphries achieving nine maximums with an average of 110.
In the quarter-finals, Price made waves with a nine-dart finish against Bunting. Already securing his spot in the playoffs, Price pulled off the perfect nine to tighten the score to 5-4. This marked his second nine-dart finish in this tournament. The event taking place in Sheffield leads up to the playoffs taking place in London on May 29th. Despite Bunting’s earlier struggles, he achieved a 6-4 victory over Price, ensuring his advancement to the semi-finals.
In his opening match at P&J Live, Aspinall faced Van Gerwen and won 6-3, boosted by a quick start that elevated his playoff aspirations. Doby brought his game to the forefront with five 180s and an impressive average of 107 in a 6-2 victory over former world champion Rob Cross.
