Astros Shake Up Coaching Staff After Disappointing Season

The Astros are making some significant changes after a lackluster 2025 season. It seems they’ve decided not to renew the contracts of hitting coaches Alex Cintron and Troy Snitker, along with major league coach Michael Collins, according to several reports.

Additionally, the front office will see a shift as assistant GM Andrew Ball is also parting ways with the team.

Perhaps a notable change, considering the team’s struggles with injuries, is that head athletic trainer Jeremiah Randall will not return for the next season.

This overhaul follows the Astros’ failure to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016. They spent a good part of the season leading the American League West but stumbled in September, wrapping up with an 87-75 record—three games shy of the Mariners.

Although they were tied with the Tigers for the third AL wild card spot, they were ultimately eliminated in a tiebreaker.

Injuries played a major role in their season, with key players like Yordan Alvarez, Jeremy Pena, Isaac Paredes, and Josh Hader sidelined for extended periods. In total, the Astros had 28 players on the injured reserve list this season.

Offensively, they struggled as well, which contributed to the decisions surrounding Cintron and Snitker. After enjoying strong offensive seasons over the previous decade, the Astros found themselves tied for 14th in OPS (.714), 16th in home runs (182), and 21st in runs scored (686) in 2025.

Despite missing the postseason for the first time in nine years, the organization is retaining manager Joe Espada and general manager Dana Brown for the final year of their respective contracts.
