Astros invite Tony Finau to throw out celebratory first pitch against the Mets

Tony Finau is having a big day before him on Friday.

He will begin the second round of the Texas Children's Houston Open at 8:04am local time, along with defending champions Stephen Jeger and Thomas Detree, who won the WM Phoenix Open earlier this year.

Afterwards, Finau heads to Daikin Park. Astros versus Mets Games start at 7:10 local time. The six-time PGA Tour winner will dump the first pitch of the celebration of Houston's second-game season. The Astros defeated New York 3-1 on Thursday on the first day.

“This will be my first pitch I'll throw away, so I look forward to it,” Finau said Tuesday at a pre-tournament press conference.

“I haven't played baseball in years so I have to practice for several days.”

Whether he is practicing or not is yet to be seen, but viewers at home and in the stands should expect Finau to at least deliver the ball to the plate.

“My goal is not to throw it into the dirt,” Finau said.

“It's hard work on it because once you throw it into the dirt you'll never hear the end of it. We'll pass it on first. I was really looking forward to it and the Astros asked me to do it.”

Finau fired an even par 70 in the first round on Thursday, earning five shots from the lead held by Keith Mitchell, Alejandro Tosti, Ryan Gerald and Taylor Pendris.
