Mass Shooting at Bondi Beach During Hanukkah Celebration

A tragic event unfolded at Bondi Beach, Australia, where a terrorist attack led to the deaths of at least 11 people and injured 29 others. This incident occurred on December 14, 2025, as two gunmen targeted a gathering celebrating Hanukkah.

Over a thousand attendees had come together for an event called “Hanukkah by the Sea,” which was meant to be a festive and family-friendly occasion filled with activities like live entertainment and games, including a petting zoo and bubble stations for children.

New South Wales Police (NSWPF) received reports of the shooting at approximately 6:45 PM. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the gunmen were able to fire for more than 10 minutes without encountering resistance.

One survivor expressed disbelief that, despite the presence of four police officers for 20 minutes, no shots were fired to intervene. “Nothing was frozen,” he said, puzzled by the lack of response.

One suspect has been named as Naveed Akram, a man from Pakistan, according to local news reports.

In a remarkable turn during the chaos, video footage showed a bystander approaching one of the assailants, managing to disarm him before taking control of the situation.

NSW Premier Chris Minns praised the bystander, calling him a “true hero” and acknowledging that his bravery likely saved many lives. “It’s essential to remember the courage displayed by individuals in our community,” he commented.

One of the terrorists was killed on-site, while another has been apprehended. Authorities are also looking into the possibility of a third participant being involved in the attack.

Additionally, police discovered an improvised explosive device in one of the suspect’s vehicles at Bondi Beach.

This incident marks one of the most severe attacks against Jewish communities since the Hamas assault on October 7, 2023.

In response to the attack, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio condemned the violence, expressing solidarity with the victims and the Jewish community in Australia.

Following this tragic event, police agencies globally have heightened security measures at public Hanukkah celebrations, notably in New York City and major European cities like London and Berlin, all taking extra precautions for community safety.
