At least 35 people injured in crash involving ADF vehicle near Lismore, northern NSW | Tropical Cyclone Alfred

More than 35 people were injured in a road incident involving an Australian Defence Force vehicle in Lismore, northern New South Wales.

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 5pm, with reports of innocence that 22 people were injured. This increased to 36 just after 6pm.

19 ambulances were dispatched to Tregeagle Road to respond to the incident.

The patient is being taken to both Lismore Hospital and Tweed Hospital.

The ADF was deployed in Lismore to help the community prepare for the effects of tropical cyclone Alfred and floods from torrential rains.

In a statement, NSW police said the two ADF trucks collided about 9 km southwest of Lismore.

“The paramedics from NSW ambulances are present and are supporting many people on the scene,” the statement said.

“Several emergency services are also available on the scene, including officials and expert rescue units from the Richmond Police District.

“Crash Investigation Officers will investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.”

Photos taken by photographers at the Sydney Morning Herald show a large troop transport vehicle rolled to its side.

Tregeagle Road is closed and police are telling people to avoid the area.

In a statement, NSW Prime Minister Chris Mins said, “I am extremely worried to hear of a report of an accident involving an Australian Defence Force official tonight.”

“They came to Kitagawa to keep this community safe,” Mins said.

“Currently, NSW emergency services are available on-site and provide all the support you need.”
