At least 36 people were shot in Chicago, led by Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson, over the weekend, eight of them fatally.
At least 13 people were shot between Friday and Saturday night, five of whom died from their injuries, Breitbart News reported.
Monday morning, ABC 7 report The total number of gunshot victims has reached at least 36, with three more people killed in shootings, all three of which occurred on Sunday.
Two of the victims died in the same shooting incident that was discovered shortly after Sunday morning in the “12300 block of South Halsted in the Calumet Park neighborhood.” Two men were found shot to death inside a Jeep Cherokee. Both victims had been shot multiple times.

A 19-year-old man was shot and killed at a gas station in the 2800 block of South Kedzie Avenue just before 5 p.m. Sunday. The 19-year-old man was one of three people in the incident. Two other victims were wounded but survived, one of whom is in critical condition.
Like the entire state of Illinois, Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the country. These restrictions include a ban on “assault weapons,” a ban on “large capacity” magazines, red flag laws, a 72-hour waiting period for gun purchases, and a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card requirement that requires Illinois residents to obtain a FOID card in order to legally own a firearm. Obtaining a FOID card requires a thorough background check conducted by the Illinois State Police.
In addition to state-level gun restrictions, a separate “assault weapons” ban is also in effect in the Chicago area, through a Cook County ban.
