A Christian radio host and CCM artist opens up about her spiritual journey. She was an atheist until the age of six when she tried to disprove God, but she said she eventually had a dramatic conversion to her faith.
Olivia Lane is the morning host messagea Christian broadcaster on SiriusXM (Channel 63) and a CCM singer known for songs such as: woman at the well and I believe nowa collaboration with Sidewalk Prophets.
But years ago, while she was a singer in Nashville seeking fame, she didn't believe in God.
“I've lived in Nashville for about 10 years and mainly do country music,” Lane told Christian Headlines. “Then in 2017, I started losing my voice because I was on the road, not taking care of myself, and not being a believer. Big questions kept coming up, like, 'What is the purpose of my life?' I'm here. So I decided to go to therapy. I went to regular therapy to heal my mind and then went to voice therapy to heal my voice. ”
Although Lane didn't realize it at the time, both her therapist and vocal coach were Christians.
“So they really started loving me during my healing journey. About a year into therapy, my therapist basically said to me, 'I need more healing. If you want that, you need to find a spiritual life.” And of course, as an atheist, I didn't want to do that. But I eventually swallowed my pride. Part of me was thinking, “Maybe I should try disproving this myself.” But I was also open. I was like, “Okay, if it's real, let's figure it out.'' ”
For the next four months, Lane woke up every morning and prayed, “God, if you are real, show yourself to me.”
“I was like praying before I even knew what the word 'pray' meant. I just had the audacity to ask.”
She said God answered her prayers on April 29, 2018.
“I was sitting in my living room reading this book. walk with god Written by John Eldridge. And suddenly it felt like all my emotions were felt at once, and I felt a presence in the room. Then I looked up and saw a shadowy silhouette of Jesus in the window with his arms outstretched. And at that moment I Already knew”
Lane said she knew nothing about prayer when she began her spiritual journey. She didn't know what the Holy Spirit was.
“I didn’t know anything,” she said. “But then Jesus showed up. So I texted my therapist, 'I think I'm having a panic attack.' And she said, “No, no, you just had the presence of the Holy Spirit for the first time.”
Lane became the morning host. message last summer. She is working on her new album.
“This is going to be a completely faith-based record, my first record.”
