Atlantic states Trump is not facing the same age criticism Biden experienced

Democrats advocate for the 25th Amendment regarding Trump after rejecting calls for Biden.

Scrutiny of Trump’s Age Compared to Biden’s

The Atlantic reported on Monday that President Donald Trump hasn’t faced the same examination regarding his age and health as former President Joe Biden.

In the piece, Jonathan Lemire highlighted that when Trump took office in January, he was the oldest president, at 78 years and 220 days. He replaced Biden, who, having once held that record, withdrew from the race as concerns about his aging became a national topic.

Lemire pointed out that as Trump ages, the conversation around his age has faded. He noted that Trump travels less, opts for more comfortable shoes, and sometimes seems to doze off during meetings.

Lemire remarked that Biden’s team had previously pushed back against media inquiries about his age, leading to a situation where those concerns were sidelined. He described how a mix of anxiety among Democrats and a focus on positive narratives about Biden meant discussions of his age were often downplayed.

However, during the general election debates, Biden’s lackluster performance led to renewed criticism, stirring concerns among voters and journalists.

With Biden approaching his 80th birthday, Lemire argued that more scrutiny is warranted regarding his health, especially given recent controversies and limited travel.

In response to Lemire’s claims, the White House press secretary defended Trump’s vigor, accusing the legacy media of neglecting to address Biden’s significant health issues.

Some commentators on social media criticized the article, asserting that media figures, including Lemire, ignored Biden’s health challenges until the 2024 debates with Trump.

Others speculated about the rationale behind the differing media coverage, noting how Trump’s transparency has contrasted sharply with the handling of Biden’s situation. Comments highlighted the apparent discrepancies in scrutiny faced by both former candidates and raised questions about the integrity of the media’s reporting.

Lemire had previously echoed criticisms regarding portrayals of Biden, particularly after a viral video showed him looking disoriented at a global summit. This pattern of information management, according to him, places the upcoming election discussions in a complicated light.
