The website of the U.S. Federal Election Commission (FEC) faced a cyberattack just days before the midterm elections in November.
This disruption affected the agency’s electronic filing system, stopping new electronic submissions while still allowing access to previously filed campaign finance reports.
An FEC representative informed the Daily Caller that the IT team is currently focused on restoring the service. They clarified that the public can continue to look up previous reports through the FEC’s online database.
“To update you, our electronic filing system is currently offline, but we’re actively working to fix the issue. The search function for FEC reports remains operational,” the spokesperson stated.
FEC’s electronic filing system is offline. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to resolve the issue.

In a recent post on X, the FEC acknowledged the outage, stating, “The electronic filing system is down. We’re sorry for the trouble and are working to resolve it.”
This incident impacts the submission of crucial 24-hour and 48-hour spending reports that detail expenditures by political groups regarding specific races.
The agency noted in a status update that the electronic filing system went offline around 10 p.m. ET on Monday.
This situation arises just a week before elections that will decide if Republicans continue to hold their majorities in Congress during the remainder of President Donald Trump’s term.
Even though the FEC oversees campaign finance disclosures, it doesn’t manage election administration, so this outage is not anticipated to hinder voters from casting their ballots. The public can keep searching through previously filed reports via the agency’s online database.
The Daily Caller attempted to obtain comments from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) but did not receive a response before publication.
