Davos Badge Chaos: Participants Left Stranded
On Monday, close to 200 potential attendees found themselves unable to enter Davos despite having registered and paid the necessary fees.
This disruption occurred during the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland. At the event, color-coded badges symbolize access, and a mistake with credentials can leave even affluent guests waiting outside key discussions. The issue stemmed from organizers restricting entry to EmTech Invest, a technology and finance event hosted at the Grand Hotel Belvedere.
Event organizer Alena Yudina enlisted the help of Introducing Leaders to manage the registration process. However, when the day arrived, Yudina discovered that “more than half” of the approximately 300 participants, including herself, had not received their badges.
“It’s really frustrating to come all the way here and not be able to participate,” one frustrated participant remarked.
The confusion escalated after Yudina opted not to pay an extra fee requested by Introducing Leaders to complete the badge processing. In response, Molly McAdams, the founder of Introducing Leaders, denied any wrongdoing and claimed Yudina had invited more people than the venue could accommodate.
This incident also highlighted an ongoing issue with a shadow market around access to Davos. A warning was issued by Davos USA House, alerting potential attendees that an outside party was selling “VIP access” to various venues, with reports indicating that unauthorized or counterfeit badges were fetching over 1,000 Swiss francs (around $1,200).
As of Monday evening, Yudina and her team were still without their badges. Nevertheless, she remained positive: “The show must go on.”
