Attorney: Christa Pike, convicted of murder, is ‘Up and Walking’ After Execution Attempt Failed

Christa Pike Given All-Female Execution Team Before Failed Lethal Injection

Christa Pike’s Condition After Failed Lethal Injection

Christa Pike’s lawyer reported that she has been able to walk around her hospital room following two unsuccessful lethal injections on September 30 in Tennessee.

Lawyer Stephen Ferrell stated that, according to a report from BBC, she is “up and walking” in her hospital room.

About her mental state, Ferrell mentioned, “I think it’s kind of good and bad. Good that she is fairly with it, but she’s also somewhat foggy. She can lose her train of thought really easily and forgets where she’s going.”

After her failed execution, she was initially unconscious and in critical condition when taken to the hospital. However, when she woke up on Tuesday, attorney Randall Spivey shared, “She is angry and confused about everything right now. She is very aware that the state tried to execute her.”

Spivey also revealed that when Pike regained consciousness, her first words were queries like “Where am I?” and “Who are you?”

Pike, who was convicted for the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer, had requested an all-female lethal injection team prior to the execution, a request that was granted.

Details from Fox News outline the brutal crime Pike committed. At just 18, she led a group that lured Slemmer under false pretenses. They tortured her for an extended period, ultimately leading to her murder in a shocking and horrific manner. Pike even kept a piece of Slemmer’s skull as a trophy, which she showed to classmates.

Ferrell noted that Pike had injuries on her arms, limiting her normal use of them.

In response to the botched execution, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has halted all executions for the rest of the year, seeking clarity on the situation. Additionally, the state’s prisons chief has announced their resignation following the incident.

On October 1, Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) expressed her thoughts on social media, stating, “This situation is tragic. Christa Pike should have been executed long ago. Now, this botched process is extending the pain for the family of Colleen Slemmer.” She also highlighted the need for a thorough review but concluded that the electric chair should be reinstated to ensure justice is delivered swiftly.
