Attorney General Pam Bondy announced on Saturday plans for federal crackdowns, stating that the U.S. has entered what she describes as a “new era of political violence.” Her strong warnings targeted extremist groups that are now allegedly threatening federal officers. This statement came a day after the Department of Justice revealed that agents would be deployed to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities nationwide.
Bondy’s video announcement on X was made shortly after Joshua Jahn, a 29-year-old suspect, reportedly carried out an attack from a nearby rooftop on the Dallas ICE facility, which the FBI labeled a “targeted attack” against federal law enforcement. Jahn’s actions led to the death of one detainee and injuries to two others.
In the clip, Bondy emphasized that there would be “zero tolerance” for political violence and domestic terrorism. “The assassin tried to kill the president; he also attempted to kill Supreme Court Judge Brett Kavanaugh twice,” she said in reference to the unfortunate incident. Additionally, she noted that Chicago’s ICE facility has seen over 200 violent rioters chanting threatening slogans against ICE, with at least one protester armed.
Bondy expressed concerns about these protests, pointing out their increasingly violent nature. She related them to previous events in places like Portland, describing them as coordinated attacks rather than peaceful gatherings. “Anyone who threatens or assaults our federal officers will face arrests and charges from the federal government,” she stated. Furthermore, she vowed to dismantle support for these extremists, asserting a commitment to reclaim safety for the nation.
On Friday, Bondy reaffirmed her stance via X, stating that the newly dispatched DOJ agents would protect federal officers and property and swiftly address anyone engaged in federal crimes. However, details regarding the number of agents and specific locations being protected have not been disclosed.
In addition, Bondy directed the National Joint Terrorism Task Force to investigate all individuals and organizations involved in domestic terrorism, focusing on acts of violence and interference with federal agents. She insisted on strict legal actions against those participating in related criminal activities, declaring that such attacks only strengthen the resolve of federal efforts.
As of now, there has been no immediate response from the Department of Homeland Security or ICE regarding these developments.
