Increased Federal Presence in Minnesota Amid Unrest
Attorney General Pam Bondi stated, “No one is above the law,” in a recent interview with Fox News. This comes as the Department of Justice has amplified its presence in Minnesota following heightened tensions and unrest linked to immigration enforcement and the suspension of church services.
During her time in Minneapolis, Bondi met with federal prosecutors and law enforcement to address what she described as a deteriorating situation in the state. She expressed concerns about the ongoing anxiety felt by police officers. “This state is in turmoil right now,” Bondi noted. “We’ve seen chaos, it’s constant, and the men and women of law enforcement deserve to be safe.”
Bondi’s discussions included meetings with federal agents from agencies like the FBI, DEA, and ATF, aiming to foster cooperation among federal entities amidst rising tensions. “We have great U.S. attorneys and we’re all going to fight together,” she emphasized, highlighting the importance of her visit.
Regarding potential investigations tied to recent subpoenas received by state officials, Bondi was tight-lipped. “I cannot confirm or deny whether there is an investigation or what it is,” she said, opting not to delve deeper into the topic.
When asked about the inflammatory rhetoric from local leaders possibly escalating unrest, Bondi acknowledged the impact of such words but maintained that accountability is essential for everyone. “Rhetoric hurts people and causes harm, and that shouldn’t happen,” she remarked. “No one is above the law, whether it’s a public servant or a law enforcement officer.”
Bondi also commented on the recent suspension of church services in St. Paul, labeling it “horrifying.” She stated, “What happened in that church was horrific. This should not happen to any Christian, any religion, synagogue, mosque, or place of worship in our country.”
The incident involved a disruption of services by activists, who accused the pastor of working for ICE. The pastor, Rev. Jonathan Purnell, described the event as shameful and illegal, emphasizing that such actions disrupt the sanctity of places of worship.
Finally, when asked about the future of federal involvement in Minnesota, Bondi affirmed, “President Trump is committed to making Minnesota safe. Therefore, the answer is yes.”
