AUGUSTA, Ga. — Jason Day admitted Saturday that Masters officials asked him to remove the sweater vest he was wearing that had a big, flashy logo for his new clothing line, Malbon.
The tournament reportedly has restrictions on the ability to display large sponsor logos on players’ shirts.
“Yes, I was asked to take off my vest.” [Friday]said Day, who is tied for 45th place at 8 over after the third round of the Masters and led by Scottie Scheffler at 7 under.
“They said, ‘Can you take it off?’” I said, “Yes, don’t worry.” With all due respect, we do it because it’s all about the tournament here, and I understand that too. I respect the competition. We’re here to play and win the green jacket. ”
Day explained that, as many clothing companies do with their players, they create scripts for what they wear each day, and the vest was on Friday’s script.
“I wasn’t trying to do anything,” Day said. “They would write a script for me to wear it, and I would wear it. They would send me a script and say, ‘This is what I want you to wear on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.’ And I’m like, “Okay.” ”
All week, Day has been hearing from social media cynics about their new clothing line.
There were some funny stories on social media, especially with the baggy clothes and the high winds on Friday.
“When the wind blows, these things puff up quickly,” Day jokingly said of his pants. “tiger [Woods] In the early 2000s, she wore more baggy clothes. He did pretty well. I think he’ll be fine. ”
Day insisted he would not listen to the nudges on social media, saying: I hear it sometimes, but to be honest, I don’t really care. I’m just trying to play good golf. That’s all that matters. ”
Ms Day said the clothes were “very comfortable”, adding: “To be honest, it really feels like I’m not wearing anything at all.”
