The aunt of an infant who died of fentanyl poisoning in Nashville, Tennessee, several months ago has been arrested at WKRN, Florida. reported on friday.
Tawona Pickens Johnson, 46, was arrested in a city nearly 500 miles away from where the incident occurred after law enforcement initially had trouble locating her, according to the report. She is charged with manslaughter and child neglect.
Ivery Holmes was 1 year old when Metro Nashville Police Department officers found her unconscious in her Herman Street home in March 2023.
According to reports, Holmes was taken to a hospital, but life support was removed and he died several days later.
After further investigation by the police department and the Department of Juvenile Services, law enforcement discovered that Holmes was exposed to fentanyl while caring for her aunt, Pickens-Johnson.
“Police stated that coordination between the Division of Youth Services and the U.S. Marshals Task Force ultimately led them to Tallahassee, Florida, where Mr. Pickens-Johnson was recently taken into custody,” the report states. are.
