A campus police officer was shot and wounded early Monday morning in Denver while trying to arrest a suspect who was trespassing on a vehicle, officials said.
The shooting occurred around 1:18 a.m. on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver, which is shared by Denver Community College, Metropolitan State University of Denver and the University of Colorado Denver, campus officials said. .
Two campus employees approached the suspect, who was found “vehicular trespassing,” the statement said. The suspect allegedly assaulted police officers and fled.
Officers then pursued the suspect, who resisted and the officers fired a Taser, authorities said.

The suspect then fired several shots, hitting one officer in the arm, before fleeing a second time.
The officer was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and later released.

Officers from Auraria Campus Police and Denver Police Department later arrested the suspect. The suspect was taken to a hospital for evaluation, but officials said it was unclear whether the Taser that officers initially deployed made contact.
