Austin Metcalf’s dad responds after Karmelo Anthony’s family representative criticizes him once more.

A representative for Carmelo Anthony’s family, linked to the fatal stabbing of Texas high school track athlete Austin Metcalf, has once again criticized Metcalf’s father, Jeff Metcalf, igniting a heated exchange. This follows a turbulent press conference on April 17, led by Dominique Alexander of the Next Generation Action Network (NGAN), where it became clear tensions were running high.

At the outset of the press conference, Alexander directed his frustration at Jeff Metcalf, labeling him as “disrespectful” and claiming his presence undermined his son’s dignity.

In a subsequent video, Alexander reiterated these accusations, stating that his group had not summoned the police; rather, they were present prior to Metcalf’s arrival. He insisted that the gathering was not organized around Jeff Metcalf and emphasized the ongoing nature of the criminal case.

Alexander remarked, “It’s inappropriate for the family to engage, ethically speaking. We don’t entirely know what we don’t know.” He expressed a need to ensure the safety of everyone involved, hinting at the complexities of the situation.

He noted his own loss, stating he has experienced the grief of losing a child, which perhaps gave him some insight into Jeff Metcalf’s pain.

Following that, Alexander addressed criticisms of his past criminal history, seemingly unfazed by those who have condemned him. “I really don’t care what others think,” he stated confidently, suggesting that such remarks only feed his drive.

He returned to discussing the logistics of the press conference, claiming the Anthony family was unaware of Metcalf’s presence until he was removed by police. According to Alexander, it was a surprise to everyone there.

Jeff Metcalf, meanwhile, fired back at Alexander’s comments, stating he wouldn’t let anything or anyone “rent space in my mind,” indicating that perhaps the focus should remain on justice rather than personal disputes.

Alexander later addressed accusations of being insensitive during that first press conference, which was supposed to address the tragic loss of Austin Metcalf but seemed to devolve into personal attacks on his father.

He said, “My words shouldn’t overshadow the dignity of the lost life,” insisting that his network fundamentally respects the gravity of the situation.

Carmelo Anthony’s mother, Kayla Hayes, voiced her family’s distress, asserting they feel under siege. She described threats and harassment that have made daily life perilous for them, leading to significant mental health struggles within the family.

In a pointed conclusion, Alexander tackled issues of racial inequality in the context of self-defense cases, drawing parallels to other notable incidents and questioning public perceptions.

Jeff Metcalf had previously shared with the media how devastating the situation was, reflecting on the lasting impact of this tragedy on his family and their journey toward healing.
