This month, the Yankees catcher became engaged to Caroline Nielson, as she recently shared proposal photos on Instagram.
Nielson posted images depicting a heartfelt beach moment where Wells is down on one knee, followed by a tender embrace.
The caption “forever and ever” suggests that the engagement likely happened on September 3, which was an off day for the Yankees during their California road trip against the Angels and Padres.
They also shared a picture featuring their daughter, Lucy, celebrating the happy occasion.
Several wives and girlfriends of Yankees players quickly congratulated the couple in the comments. “My heart!!!!! Let’s get these two married!!! 🥹🥹🥹♥️♥️♥️♥️” exclaimed Ava O’Connor, who is dating outfielder Spencer Jones.
The wife of pitcher Carlos Rodon, Ashley, added, “The best off day in the history of off days.”
Ben Rice’s girlfriend, Sara Falkson, chimed in with excitement, stating, “SCREAMING CRYING.”
It’s not clear exactly when Wells and Nielson began dating, but they revealed last November that Nielson was expecting their child, marking one of their first public relationship announcements.
As for Wells, he has an important postseason ahead of him.
The 27-year-old catcher has been improving from a rough start to the season, elevating his batting average to .185 after it had dropped to .150 in July. He is well-regarded for his defensive skills and is expected to play a significant role in the Yankees’ lineup during the playoffs.
The postseason is set to kick off next week, likely featuring the Yankees going up against the Red Sox in a best-of-three wild card series in The Bronx.
Wells had a standout moment last year when the Yankees faced the Red Sox in the same situation, knocking in the game-winning run with an eighth-inning single in Game 2.
That night, the Yankees tied the series and went on to win Game 3 the next day.
Now, as Wells aims for a deeper postseason journey, Nielson will undoubtedly be cheering him on from the stands.
