Australian mining magnate Clive Palmer has revived plans to build a faded replica of the Titanic and sail it around the world. This is a plan he has long promised, but no results have been shown.

Mr Palmer, 69, made similar plans in 2012 and 2018 to save the fateful ocean liner that hit an iceberg and sank on its maiden voyage in 1912, killing more than 2,000 crew members. Plans have been launched to build a replica of Titanic II.

The billionaire held a press conference at the Sydney Opera House on Wednesday to lay out his vision for the ship’s completion, pledging to build “a ship of love, ultimate style and luxury,” The Guardian reported. Ta. Mr Palmer, who also served as a member of the Australian Parliament, said he had not secured a shipyard.

“We are bringing the world’s best shipbuilders, designers and engineers back on deck to build Titanic II,” Palmer said.

The ship will be built by Palmer’s company, Blue Star Line.

Once completed, the ship will follow the original journey of the original Titanic. The ship will sail from Southampton, England to New York and sail around the world, Palmer said.

The interior of the proposed ship will consist of nine decks and will have 835 cabins, including 383 first class cabins, 201 second class cabins and 251 third class cabins. The maximum number of passengers will be 2,435. An exact replica of the bridge that was on the original ship will also be installed.

Apart from the onboard experience, the ship will be equipped with upgrades to navigation technology and the latest safety procedures. She will be powered by a diesel engine, but like the original coal-fired Titanic, she will have four chimneys.

He blamed the delay on Wednesday on the coronavirus pandemic and the cruise industry shutdown.

“I have more money now,” he said. “It’s much more fun to ride the Titanic than to sit at home and count your money.”
