Australian star reveals what’s in box Olympic medalists get

If you’re wondering what’s inside the long, thin, gold boxes that 2024 Summer Olympic medalists will receive instead of flowers on the podium, one athlete has the answer.

Jessica Fox of Australia, the most decorated canoe slalom athlete in Olympic history, responded to a fan’s comment: “Well done, but what’s in the box?” Unboxing video on TikTok she posted on Wednesday.

Fox, who has already won two gold medals in Paris, pulled out a rolled-up print of the official Paris Olympics poster, decorated with gold embroidery.

Nearly three days later, the 30-year-old Fox won gold in the women’s canoe final, her third Olympic gold medal overall.

She finished in 101.06, 2.48 seconds faster than silver medalist Elena Lilik of Germany, despite a two-second touch penalty.

“I don’t know how I did it, the atmosphere was amazing, I looked outside and saw lots of green and yellow and Australian flags, I think it was the best run I’ve ever had,” the veteran said after Saturday’s race. From the Olympic website.

Fox made Olympic history as the first athlete to win gold medals in both the K-1 and C-1 events at the same competition.

She won a silver medal in kayak slalom at the 2012 Games and bronze medals in both 2016 and 2021.
