A video has emerged showing a federal agent colliding with a car in Los Angeles while apprehending a riot participant accused of attacking a border officer.
On Wednesday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released footage capturing the arrest of Christian Damien Serna Camacho, a U.S. citizen who allegedly assaulted a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer during an anti-ICE protest and then attempted to flee.
“This was not just a random incident. It was a focused effort to detain a violent individual who struck a CBP officer. When the Homeland Security Investigation sought to apprehend Christian Damien Serna Camacho for the assault, he resisted and tried to escape. Ultimately, he was captured and placed into custody.”
The video illustrates two vehicles surrounding the suspect’s white sedan before multiple agents emerge, some brandishing guns. Camacho can be seen exiting the vehicle with one arm raised and visibly injured before being taken into custody.
DHS has yet to specify when the arrest took place or the exact charges against Camacho.
“The Homeland Security Investigation arrested Christian Damien Serna Camacho for assaulting federal law enforcement personnel,” stated Deputy Director Tricia McLaughlin.
She added:
“Our officers are experiencing a 413% increase in assaults against them. We confront violent criminals daily. Director Noem has a clear message for those rioting in Los Angeles: you won’t deter us. ICE and our federal partners will continue to enforce the law. Any violence against law enforcement will result in severe consequences.”
Last Friday, protests erupted in Los Angeles as anti-ICE demonstrators attempted to impede the city’s efforts to enforce immigration laws. Videos showed some protesters burning American flags while prominently displaying Mexican flags, damaging property, and engaging in looting. One individual, believed to have made a prior arrest, was witnessed distributing a riot device along with a “bionic face shield” in downtown Los Angeles.
Protests of a similar nature have been spotted in various cities across the country, such as San Antonio, Texas, and Atlanta, Georgia.
In response to the escalating situation in Los Angeles, President Donald Trump has deployed the National Guard and hundreds of U.S. Marines, despite opposition from California’s Democratic leaders like Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.
DHS reported that the ICE operations led to the apprehension of undocumented individuals implicated in serious criminal offenses, including murder and sexual assault.
