Search for Missing 19-Year-Old Takes Tragic Turn
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The search for 19-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos faced a heartbreaking development on Tuesday when law enforcement discovered a body and a weapon in dense brush, just 200 meters from her home. The area had been covered in thick vegetation, making it challenging for investigators to search initially. Officials expect to confirm the identity of the body in the coming days.
For nearly a week, family and over 100 volunteers had joined forces to search for Camila, widening their efforts as days passed.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar held a news conference late Tuesday to discuss the body discovered near where Mendoza Olmos lived, explaining it was found shortly before 5 p.m. The site had been previously searched, but the tall grass hindered visibility, necessitating a second look.
According to a source familiar with the search, the body was located near a business specializing in bulk mulch and soil sales, which is close to the Wildhorse neighborhood where Camila lived. The brush and grass in the area complicated the search.
Salazar mentioned that an agreement was reached between sheriff’s deputies and FBI agents involved in the search to revisit the overgrown area due to earlier difficulties. He also noted that a firearm was located alongside the body.
During the news conference, Salazar mentioned that a firearm belonging to the Olmos family had been reported as missing around the time of Camila’s disappearance. He indicated that the Bexar County coroner would take approximately two days to identify the remains definitively.
There are concerns regarding the possibility of suicide, with Salazar stating, “We’ve received information that Camila may have had suicidal thoughts.” He refrained from providing further details out of respect for her family but added that she seemed to be facing significant challenges.
On Sunday morning, Breitbart Texas volunteers gathered at Wild Horse HOA Sports Park to assist in the search for Mendoza Olmos. Organizer Frank Trevino shared insights into the search efforts, which began in areas Camila was known to frequent for her walks. The Wildhorse neighborhood, an upper-middle-class area on San Antonio’s northwest side, has homes with median prices exceeding $300,000. Initially, there were concerns that she may have been abducted.
Missing person flyers featuring Mendoza Olmos’s photos and details about her disappearance continue to be displayed throughout the neighborhood. On Tuesday, Sheriff Salazar expressed gratitude for the FBI’s assistance in the search following Camila’s disappearance.
As noted by Breitbart Texas, early reports indicated that the last sighting of the young woman was on foot outside a residence on Caspian Spring Road around 7 a.m. Authorities reviewed security footage showing an unidentified person—believed to be a young woman—looking for unknown items inside a vehicle.
Shortly after she vanished, the Texas Department of Public Safety issued a statewide Coordinated Law Enforcement Adult Rescue (CLEAR) Alert to aid in the search for Mendoza Olmos. This alert is designed to “assist state law enforcement in locating and rescuing missing, abducted adults, or adults in imminent danger of injury or death.”
