Shooting Investigation in Santa Rosa

Authorities in Santa Rosa are looking into the fatal shooting of a well-known San Francisco strip club manager discovered on a roadway early Friday morning.

Shortly before 6:30 a.m., the Santa Rosa Police responded to a 911 call about an unresponsive individual near the Sonoma County Fairgrounds. Upon arrival, officers found a man who appeared to have died from a gunshot wound.

The victim was later identified as 60-year-old Mark Calcagni, a longtime Santa Rosa resident and the manager of the Condor Club. He was found approximately 100 meters from his residence.

As of now, police have not made any arrests, and no suspects or weapons have been identified. Investigators indicated that there is no immediate threat to the public, though the person or people responsible remain unidentified.

Calcagni was a prominent figure in San Francisco’s nightlife, serving as the general manager of the historic Condor Club, reportedly the first topless bar in the United States. He also managed another venue called Vanity San Francisco.

Wolfgang Welch, the new head of Vanity, spoke highly of Calcagni, calling him a respected leader in adult entertainment and noting he had an indelible influence on the industry.

The Condor Club released a statement expressing their profound sorrow over Calcagni’s death, describing him as a pillar of both the establishment and the broader nightlife community. They highlighted his dedication and passion, stating that his contributions significantly shaped their identity.

On the investigation front, the SRPD’s Violent Crimes Investigation Team, along with forensic experts, spent several hours gathering evidence at the scene. They are urging anyone with possible information, especially surveillance or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the shooting, to come forward.

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered by the Sonoma County Alliance Community Action and Safety Fund for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with insights related to the case is encouraged to reach out to the SRPD tip line at (707) 543-3590.
