Security Concerns Looming Over Charlie Kirk’s Memorial Service

Federal law enforcement agencies are currently monitoring various “threats of unknown credibility” regarding Charlie Kirk’s memorial service scheduled for Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

This event is expected to attract around 60,000 attendees, including high-profile figures like former President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. With this kind of visibility, there’s heightened anxiety about the potential for an assassination attempt or mass shooting.

According to a memo from the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, Secret Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, “Violent extremists and unaffiliated lone offenders may view the memorial service or related events as attractive attack targets due to the attendance of these individuals, along with other senior U.S. government officials and political activists, especially given the major international media attention.”

This memorial service comes on the heels of Kirk’s assassination last week at Utah Valley University, which appears to have been politically motivated, further necessitating a heightened state of alert among federal agencies.

The Department of Homeland Security has categorized Kirk’s funeral as a Special Event Assessment Rating Level 1, signifying it’s an event of the highest national significance.

Trump has faced two assassination attempts himself, which naturally raises the Secret Service’s vigilance regarding any potential threats to the former president.

Tim Miller, a former Secret Service agent, noted that “The Secret Service now has to play at a level of enhanced security that they’ve never dreamed of before.”

He elaborated, saying, “This threat is now. Can you imagine — they already shot our president once. Can you imagine if they’re able to kill him?”

While federal agencies are observing unverified threats, no credible plot targeting the memorial has yet emerged.

William Mack, the Secret Service special agent overseeing the Phoenix field office, explained the efforts underway to secure the event.

“Our teams are already on the ground in Phoenix and Glendale, working alongside state, local, and federal partners. Together, we are fully committed to ensuring that these solemn events receive the comprehensive protection and support they require,” Mack said.

Trump is expected to speak at the memorial, expressing his anticipation when he remarked, “It’s going to be big.” He added, “I don’t know, but I guess I will [speak]. I knew him very well. He was an amazing guy. He was all about young people and getting them started.”

The lineup of speakers also includes:

  • White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles
  • Secretary of State Marco Rubio
  • Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
  • Department of War Secretary Pete Hegseth
  • National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard
  • Donald Trump Jr.
  • Tucker Carlson
  • White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller
