Orem, Utah – Authorities are currently examining surveillance footage from a residence that may provide leads in the investigation of the recent shooting death of conservative speaker Charlie Kirk, who was killed on Wednesday.
A resident mentioned to Fox News Digital that his camera likely captured images of someone seemingly interested in his neighbor’s backyard.
Law enforcement, along with agents from the U.S. Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, were observed at the location, with one officer seen removing an entire floodlight unit that included home security cameras.
Irwin Steele, the homeowner, explained that his family owns several properties on West Street in Orem, with one of them situated just across from Utah Valley University, right next to an alley where the shooter might have fled after the incident.
According to Steele, his brother managed to record footage of an individual running through their yard immediately following the shooting. The street is adjacent to a wooded area, from where a rifle was recovered early in the investigation.
Steele suspects the assailant may have dashed down the alley, discarded weapons, and crossed through his property.
Kirk, who was only 31 and a father, was shot by two assailants at an event held by the local chapter of Turning Point USA, the organization he founded.
FBI Special Agent Robert Bohls reported that investigators discovered a “strong bolt-action rifle” along the suspected escape route of the shooters.
The FBI has also released images of a black male as a “person of interest” related to the incident, with Bohls indicating that palm prints, footprints, and forearm imprints were identified at the scene.
Witnesses have shared video footage from the event that momentarily captured the chaos when a bullet struck Kirk in the neck, after which he was promptly rushed to a hospital but ultimately pronounced dead.
Other available online videos depict a dark figure lurking in the background, and authorities believe the gunfire originated from approximately 200 yards away, likely from a vantage point on the Roy’s Centre Building situated across the courtyard where Kirk was speaking.
