FBI Thwarts Alleged Attack Plot on UFC Freedom 250 Event

The FBI, in coordination with law enforcement and the Department of Justice, has disrupted an alleged plot targeting the recent UFC Freedom 250 event held at the White House, according to FBI Director Kash Patel.

Patel revealed via a post on X that he became aware of this potential threat on June 10. Following that, a multi-state operation was launched, leading to the detention of multiple individuals.

Reports indicate that investigators uncovered a network of 23 people connected to the planned attack. Authorities stated that the plot involved using explosive drones to target buildings near the event, which could have led to mass evacuations and provided cover for sniper teams.

There were also indications of a “second wave” that aimed to breach the White House gates, officials noted.

In an initial investigation, one suspect’s cell phone revealed discussions among 23 users on the Signal messaging app regarding “pre-operation activities.”

Additionally, the suspect mentioned intentions to attack “capitalist elites,” including billionaires and politicians who had received support from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

The UFC Freedom 250 event took place on June 14 on the South Lawn of the White House, serving as a grand celebration of the 250th anniversary of American independence. Coincidentally, it was also Flag Day and President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.

About 4,300 people attended the event, including the president and first lady Melania Trump, along with senior officials and Cabinet members. It’s estimated that around 85,000 individuals gathered for a viewing party at a nearby park, The Ellipse.

Director Patel commended the law enforcement efforts in preventing the alleged attack, emphasizing that such work is not uncommon for the team.

“Our capabilities enable us to locate, respond to, and bring justice to those who pose a threat, particularly during significant events like the UFC 250 fight, and we accomplished just that,” said Patel. He expressed gratitude to the agencies involved and stated that work is ongoing, with updates to be provided to the public as appropriate.
