Incident Involving Minnesota Lawmakers

The Police Chief of Brooklyn Park, Mark Bruley, remarked that an interaction between law enforcement and Minnesota Representative Vance Bolter may have averted further tragedies. Bruley mentioned that a sergeant, who wasn’t on duty at the time, learned about a shooting incident at the residence of Democrat Senator John Hoffman and promptly dispatched two officers to check on Democrat State Senator Melissa Hortman’s home.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Bolter’s vehicle parked in the driveway. Bruley expressed concern about what could have transpired if they had not intervened, highlighting that removing the car thwarted Bolter’s plans, which included critical information and potential weaponry.

Bolter reportedly fled on foot after a two-day manhunt culminated in his capture without further incident. He is accused of the murders of both Hortman and her husband, as well as Hoffman and his spouse, all shot in distinct incidents early on a Saturday morning.

It was reported that Bolter approached the lawmakers while impersonating police officers, driving a black SUV equipped with flashing lights and bearing false plates reading “police.”

He faces serious charges, including federal counts of stalking, two counts of murder, and firearms-related offenses. In addition, Bolter has been charged with second-degree murder in Hennepin County.

On Monday, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office indicated its intention to initiate first-degree murder charges against Bolter. Local police have yet to respond to inquiries from media sources. This incident has raised alarm and concern regarding the safety of public officials.
