Authorities react to fatal shooting at Texas Target store

Tragic Shooting at Target Store in Austin

On Monday, a shooting at a Target store in Austin, Texas has left at least three people dead, and a suspect is now in custody after being apprehended following a police response.

Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis shared details at a press conference, stating that officers arrived around 2:15 PM to find three individuals shot in the store’s parking area. The shooter, described by Davis as roughly 32 years old, had fled the scene and stolen a vehicle belonging to one of the victims.

Before his capture, the suspect had also damaged this vehicle and subsequently took a Volkswagen from a dealership. He was eventually located in South Austin, where he was taken into custody after being subdued with a Taser, according to Chief Davis.

“This is a very sad day for Austin,” Davis remarked. “We have three people who have passed away. It’s a heavy burden for all of us, and my thoughts are with the families affected.” A preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect may have a history of mental health issues.

Meanwhile, emergency personnel reported that the third victim was transported to a local hospital but unfortunately did not survive. There was also mention of a fourth individual, treated at the scene for an unrelated injury.

Chief Davis noted that the investigation is ongoing, and it’s unclear what might have triggered the shooting. They are currently examining surveillance footage from the area to help piece together the events that unfolded.

Target employees reportedly guided customers to safety during the incident, but as of now, the company has not released an official statement regarding the shooting.

Initially, the suspect was described as a white male, possibly wearing khaki shorts and a Hawaiian shirt.
