Freight Train Derailment in Bensalem, Pennsylvania

Officials have confirmed that no hazardous materials leaked following a freight train derailment in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday afternoon. As a result, previous shelter-in-place and evacuation orders have been rescinded.

The Bensalem Police Department stated, “Hazardous materials personnel have determined the area is safe. There is no threat to the public. All residents may return to their homes and businesses.”

Local reports indicate that approximately 16 freight cars derailed between Street Road and Neshaminy Falls Station around 2:15 p.m.

Initially, authorities were concerned about what the freight cars might be carrying, particularly regarding potential hazardous materials. However, they concluded that the situation was under control. Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pennsylvania) reported that no injuries occurred and mentioned that his office was collaborating with first responders and local officials on the matter.

“This was a freight derailment and did not occur on a commuter rail line,” Fitzpatrick mentioned in a post. He added that multiple vehicles were involved, some possibly containing hazardous materials.

At first, a shelter-in-place order was issued, advising residents to stay indoors, keep pets inside, secure windows and doors, and turn off heating and cooling systems.

Authorities also requested that people outside the area avoid the scene, allowing emergency personnel to navigate nearby roads freely.

This incident comes on the heels of heightened concerns about rail safety following a major train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, which sparked national discussions about the transport of hazardous materials.

Fox News Digital attempted to reach out to local emergency management agencies for further comments but had not received any immediate responses.
