The Stanley Cup playoffs are formatted so that at least one of the first round series features two authentic competitors.
This year’s bracket has several Slobberknockers in Round 1, but the most persuasive thing at Best Seven is between the Colorado Avalanche and the Dallas star.
Dallas is a joint favorite to win the Stanley Cup, but a small underdog to win the series against AVS.

Avalanche vs. Stars Betting Preview
The gap between the stars and the avalanches cannot be thinned, but these two teams are completely different ways.
Colorado runs star power, led by Nathan McKinnon and Kale McCal.
Speed and skill have long been a hallmark of AVS, but Colorado also addressed its greatest needs at trade deadlines by reinforcing its depth.
Brock Nelson, Charlie Coyle and Ryan Lindgren have changed the AVS from a top-heavy team to a deep juggernaut into every position.
The stars were erected in the opposite direction. Always on the deeper NHL roster, Dallas has the ability to crush teams and roll four lines to play structured, defensively.

Dallas’ biggest knock was that it didn’t have enough star power, but the star tried to deal with it by bringing in Mikko Lantanen, the former 55-goal scorer for the avalanche.
Lantanen was traded to Carolina from Colorado earlier this season in exchange for Martin Nekas and Jack Dooley.
On paper, Dallas should have a goal edge with Jake Ottinger standing across from McKenzie Blackwood, the latter has been fantastic since joining San Jose’s AVS.
Avalanche vs. Star Pick
This is a match against the handicap, but there is one distinction.
Since the trade deadline, Colorado has been a 5-5 giant, with a 19-game difference in goals.
The AVS also boasted a predicted target difference of plus 10, creating 28 Heidanger scoring opportunities than we’ve seen within that range.
Dallas relies more on control of their play than Colorado, with a 5-for-5 plus-7 goal difference in that range, but the star is red in both the expected goal and Heidanger’s scoring chance rate.
In fact, NHL teams have not recognized more Danger’s scoring chances since the trading deadline than Dallas.
Colorado is not only worth the bet to win this series with something better than the -125, but supporting AVS to do this quickly is not the worst idea.
Play: Avalanche – 1.5 Games (+150)
