The Mets are back.
And “Baby Mets” also appeared.
All it needed was an injection of young hitters and a winning streak.
A five-game winning streak, from a hopeless 20-23 to a 25-23, revitalized Mets Land.
This looks like something completely different from the team we saw a week ago losing to bad teams like the Nationals, Tigers and Reds.
In these “Baby Mets” youngsters inspire and veterinarians approach.
All of this comes together for a winning streak that could turn the Mets’ season around.
To talk about the sweeping victory over the Guardians, the five-game winning streak, and the turnaround for Orange and Blue, Nelson Figueroa and I bring you a new episode of our podcast, Amazing But True.
Former Mets and Cleveland outfielder Rajai Davis also makes an appearance. He arrived at the stadium midway through the game on this day in 2019 and hit a memorable three-run home run in his first at-bat for the Mets. After getting a call a few hours ago.
The Amazing But True Podcast by Jake Brown and Nelson Figueroa:
- How far to sweep: It was an unbelievable weekend with a one point difference. The Mets’ five-game winning streak was all by one point. They are resilient and find ways to win. The Mets needed inspiration, and they found inspiration from a variety of heroes over the weekend, including Francisco Lindor, who hit a walk-off and home run against his former team on Friday night.
- Baby mets: Mark Vientos instantly energized the Mets. Brett Batty’s hitting is good. Francisco Alvarez is churning out hit after hit. He’s not a baby, but Met rookie Gary Sanchez played on Sunday as well, giving them a productive game.
- Vintage Verlander/Scherzer: They were great on Sunday. It’s still early, so we have to be careful not to get too deep into the match. They didn’t want to risk Justin Verlander going to the ninth inning. Scherzer came out and looked a little frowning, but he said he had a callus problem. The bullpen struggled a bit, but was backed up by a bat and good defense.
Rajai Davis Interview:

- Mets Call-Up: When the Mets called him out, he took an Uber from Pennsylvania to Citi Field, got there mid-game, and hit a pinch-hitting home run.
- Game 7 World Series home run: A look back at the 2016 Indians-Cubs Game 7 home run of the World Series. Biggest moment in his career.
- Kipnis/Lindall: In response to Jason Kipnis’ comment that the Mets don’t have a leader. Experience playing in Cleveland with Kipnis and Francisco Lindor.
- Rule change: Thoughts on the rule changes they introduced and speeding up the game. How many stolen bases will he steal in today’s game with new rules/bigger bases?
