Babysitter charged in stabbing death of 3-year-old girl in Las Vegas: police

The babysitter was arrested for stabbing a 3-year-old girl she was worried about in Las Vegas and died, police said.

Marketta Phillips, 41, was charged with murder opened with a deadly weapon in connection with a murder committed in an apartment at about 3:30am Wednesday while the victim's father was at work, the Metropolitan Police Department in Las Vegas (LVMPD) said in a statement.

Police say Phillips stabbed the girl and fled the scene when her father arrived home. The apartment, located in the 4200 block of Channel 10 Drive, is located five miles south of downtown Las Vegas.

When Las Vegas police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the victims who had multiple stab wounds inside the apartment and provided life-saving measures until medical workers arrived.

The girl was then taken to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Phillips was near the scene and was taken into custody.

Phillips was booked at Clark County Detention Center. The motive for the murder is unknown, and it is not known what kind of connection Phillips had to do with the child or her father.

She appeared in the first courthouse at the Regional Judicial Center on Thursday. News3LV reported. The judge ordered her to be held without bail.

This is not the only break-in with Phillips police.
