A Sussex family hired Sonnemann to babysit their 4-year-old daughter on January 25, according to a criminal complaint obtained by FOX 6. When her mother returned home around 9 p.m., her family’s dog was missing..

On the morning of Friday, January 26, the family continued to search for Batman as they drove around the neighborhood and notified the sheriff’s office that the dog was still missing, FOX 6 reported.

According to the complaint, the family called 911 at 1:35 p.m. to respond to a complaint about the animals at their home.

The father told investigators he found the dog hiding under a blanket in the corner of the bedroom and “there was blood everywhere.”

The father told police he suspected Sonneman, whom he had hired as a babysitter the night before, because he was the only person home with his daughter, according to the complaint. The complaint alleges Sonnemann also allegedly ignored phone calls from his family.

At one point, the dog, Sonneman and the couple’s daughter could be seen in the living room, the complaint states, but Batman was nowhere to be seen and Sonneman was seen walking down the hallway where the dog was later found dead. It was written that he was seen there.

The family also told deputies they noticed the scissors were missing and their daughter’s hair had also been cut.

Deputies said they found scissors with blood and what appeared to be fur on them in the top drawer of a dresser in the bedroom.

The court ordered Sonnemann to undergo a medical evaluation, and a retrial hearing is scheduled for May 6.
