Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley guides the Baltimore Ravens to an unexpected overtime victory against the Atlanta Falcons

Baltimore Ravens Rally to Beat Atlanta Falcons in Overtime

It might have crossed your mind to turn off the TV during the second quarter of the game. Honestly, watching both teams struggle offensively wasn’t exactly thrilling. The Ravens had Tyler Huntley stepping in as quarterback for the injured Lamar Jackson, which didn’t inspire a lot of confidence.

But just when it seemed like this Sunday Night Football matchup was heading for a dull conclusion, excitement picked up. The Ravens managed a comeback, edging out the Falcons with a 30-23 victory in overtime.

The Falcons capitalized on Huntley’s unfamiliarity for most of the first half, pressuring the Ravens’ offensive line, resulting in four sacks. Still, when it mattered, Huntley found a way to make critical plays with both his arm and legs, especially during the game-tying drive that brought the match to overtime.

Once overtime began, a combination of Huntley’s efforts and the ever-consistent Derrick Henry led to the only touchdown scored during that period.

Surprisingly, all three of Huntley’s touchdowns—two through the air and one on the ground—came after halftime, which is interesting given how the first half unfolded for the Ravens against the Falcons’ defense.

On the other side of the field, Atlanta’s QB Michael Penix Jr. had some bright moments, especially in the second half, where he kept drives alive by converting on several third-and-long situations and effectively utilizing his offensive weapons.

Bijan Robinson was impressive, racking up over 100 yards from scrimmage, while receiver Drake London topped the team with seven catches for 118 yards. Even tight end Kyle Pitts showed promise, making five receptions, including an eight-yard touchdown in the first half.

When Atlanta’s “big three” are all playing well, it’s pretty clear they can be a challenging offense to stop.

Unfortunately for them, their strong performances ended up in a losing effort. Penix, unfortunately, didn’t finish the game due to a hit to the ribs late in the fourth quarter. Backup quarterback Tua Tagovailoa came in for one play but ended up taking over for the overtime period.

Though Tagovailoa started strong on the potential drive to tie the game in overtime, he threw an interception to Baltimore’s All-Pro safety, Kyle Hamilton, sealing Atlanta’s loss.

With this win, the Ravens improved to a 4-1 record, securing their position at the top of the AFC North. Meanwhile, the Falcons dropped to 2-3, leaving head coach Kevin Stefanski pondering how they let this game slip away.
