Bad Bunny deletes Instagram following criticism from Super Bowl LX halftime performance

Latin artist Bad Bunny has taken down his entire Instagram account, just hours after facing significant criticism for his halftime performance at Super Bowl LX on Sunday.

Former President Trump was among those who voiced strong disapproval, labeling the halftime show as “one of the worst in Super Bowl history” and criticizing the choreography as “disgusting.”

Now, Bad Bunny’s Instagram page is devoid of a profile picture or any posts, leaving his over 50 million followers taken aback.

The 29-year-old, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, has also deleted his following list but still retains a massive 53.2 million followers.

This isn’t his first instance of deleting an Instagram account; in 2022, he scrubbed his TikTok as well.

His performance at Levi’s Stadium was entirely in Spanish, which Trump deemed “an insult to the greatness of America.”

Trump remarked, “The halftime show was absolutely awful, one of the worst ever! It makes no sense, it’s an insult to American greatness, and it doesn’t represent our standards of success, creativity, and excellence.”

Critics pointed out they couldn’t understand the lyrics, and one commentator described the performance as “disgusting,” particularly for young viewers.

Turning Point USA spokesperson Andrew Corbett stated, “It’s worse than we thought. It’s pure regression.”

Bad Bunny’s song “Tití Me Preguntó,” which references orgies, added to the controversy surrounding his show.

While conservatives rallied against the performance, Democratic leaders seemed to brush it off. California Governor Gavin Newsom, a potential contender for the 2028 presidential race, called it a beautiful moment, thanking artists for their expression and declaring, “Together we are America.”

Reps. Jasmine Crockett and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also praised Bad Bunny, with Ocasio-Cortez sharing a Puerto Rican flag emoji and Crockett saying, “Bad Bunny understands the mission…”

Notably, even athletes like Tom Brady expressed admiration for Bad Bunny’s performance.

Before the Super Bowl, Jake Paul announced he wouldn’t be watching the halftime show. He mentioned on X that “intentionally stopping the halftime show” was his objective and expressed dissatisfaction with performers who he felt disrespected America.

Later, he clarified his remarks, emphasizing he never labeled Bad Bunny as a “fake citizen” due to his Puerto Rican heritage. He explained, “I live in Puerto Rico, love Puerto Rico, and have supported it many times.”

However, he also stated that public criticism of ICE and perceived disrespect for America warrant discussion on citizenship.
