‘Bad*ss:’ Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg Praises ‘Inspiring’ Donald Trump for His Resilience

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg made headlines recently for his comments about former President Donald Trump, calling him an “incredible guy” and praising his resilience, while also commenting on the role of political content on Facebook in the upcoming election.

Bloomberg Reports In a recent interview, Meta (formerly Facebook) CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared his thoughts on former President Donald Trump’s reaction to the shooting, calling it “incredible” and “inspirational.” Zuckerberg’s comments, made during a debate on “The Circuit with Emily Chang,” have drawn attention to the complicated relationship between Silicon Valley leaders and politicians.

Zuckerberg specifically mentioned Trump’s actions after the shooting, saying, “Watching Donald Trump stand up after getting shot in the face, raise the American flag and pump his fist in the air was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen in my life,” and elaborated further on the emotional impact of such resilience, saying, “In some ways, as an American, it’s hard not to empathize with that spirit and that fighting spirit. And I think that’s why so many people like him.”

Despite these comments, Zuckerberg was quick to clarify that he was not endorsing Trump or his presumptive rival, President Joe Biden. He said he had “no plans” to get involved in the election in any way. That seems like a stretch after the billionaire’s infamous “Zuckerbucks” campaign. But Zuckerberg’s remarks come at a time when several prominent Silicon Valley figures, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk and venture capitalists Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, have stepped up their support for the former president.

Meta CEO also addressed Facebook’s role in the upcoming election. Zuckerberg revealed that the company is making changes in response to user feedback, saying, “What we hear most often from people is that they want to see less political content on our service because they use our service to connect with other people.” As a result, Meta has already reduced the political content it recommends to users. Zuckerberg predicted, “I think our service will play less of a role in this election than it has in the past.”

This shift in content strategy comes after a tumultuous period in Mehta’s relationship with Trump: Mehta suspended Trump from both Facebook and Instagram for two years following the events of January 6, 2021. At the time, Zuckerberg said Trump was using his accounts to “disrupt the peaceful and lawful transition of power to his elected successor.”

Trump’s account has since been reinstated, but the former president has indicated he has not forgiven Mehta or Zuckerberg. Trump has called Facebook the “enemy of the people” and has suggested he may retaliate if re-elected. In a recent TruthSocial post, Trump appeared to warn Zuckerberg, saying, “If I’m elected President, I will go after election fraudsters like never before and give them long prison sentences. I already know who you are. Don’t do it! Watch out, Mr. Zuckerberg!”

The interview also touched on the topic of competition in the social media world, particularly with regards to TikTok. When asked about his stance on banning Chinese-owned video apps, Zuckerberg declined to comment, saying “it’s beyond my salary.” However, he expressed confidence in Meta’s market position, saying, “I think we’re doing pretty well here. We’re growing our market share. So I don’t know. They’ll do what they have to do, but either way I think we’ll be OK and continue to do well in this space.”
