Former President Trump’s campaign has blasted Democratic Sen. Jon Tester of Montana, calling him “fundamentally out of touch with reality” after his opponent claimed he would ban abortion without exceptions and released several new abortion-focused ads.
“Democrats like Kamala Harris and Jon Tester are fundamentally out of touch with the majority of Americans in their support of pre- and post-birth abortion and forcing taxpayers to pay for it,” Trump spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
The first ad in the Montana Democrat last week featured a woman arguing that Montana’s Republican Senate candidate, Tim Sheehy, would allow an abortion ban to go ahead, even in circumstances where the procedure is necessary “to save a woman’s life or health.”

In two other video ads on the subject, women tell viewers that Sheehy would allow politicians to ban abortion “without exceptions” and treat women as criminals.
But Sheehy has repeatedly argued for exceptions to any abortion restrictions: “I will always protect three women’s rights: against rape, against incest and against the life of the mother,” he said during a debate with Tester in June.
In an interview in May Montana Public Radio (MPR)“I am proudly pro-life and support common-sense protections when a baby may feel pain, as well as exceptions for rape, incest and the mother’s life,” the Republican candidate said.

“Any further restrictions should be left to the states,” he added.
The Trump campaign also reiterated its support for addressing abortion on a state-by-state basis, rather than adopting a uniform national policy on this important issue.

The department reiterated this point in a statement to Fox News Digital, with a spokesperson saying, “President Trump has long been a consistent supporter of states’ rights to make decisions regarding abortion.”
“It is unfortunate that this debate has forgotten the fact that Senator Jon Tester supports on-demand elective abortion up until the moment of birth,” Sheehy wrote on his campaign website.

“Think again. Jon Tester supports aborting healthy, full-term babies the day before they are due to be born. That’s an extreme position.”
