Balochistan: Ongoing Concerns Over Enforced Disappearances
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has shared updates on social media regarding ongoing cases of enforced disappearances in Balochistan. This includes reports of the recent abductions of individuals, notably a 16-year-old student named Sameer Sudheer from Pasni, taken on May 1, and a 25-year-old named Hammal Ali from Nasirabad in April.
Detailed information released includes the circumstances of the abductions. In a series of posts, the BYC highlighted persistent issues regarding human rights abuses in the region. They condemned what they describe as a continuing “kill and dump” policy targeting Baloch civilians carried out by the Pakistani military and intelligence agencies.
Past statements from the BYC emphasize that extrajudicial killings of those who are forcibly disappeared remain a severe humanitarian issue. They expressed concerns about the lack of accountability, stating that these killings continue without repercussions and are often rationalized by linking victims to extremist groups. However, families and various independent sources argue that many of these individuals were known to be in custody prior to their killings.
Recently, the BYC reported that seven individuals, previously classified as missing, were subjected to high-profile judicial hearings by the Sanjawi counterterrorism division and paramilitary forces. Yet, investigations conducted by human rights organizations have raised alarms, suggesting that the purported justice is lacking and the victims may have been executed rather than properly investigated.
The BYC underscores the dire state of affairs in Balochistan, calling for urgent action from international bodies and human rights advocates as this crisis continues to escalate.
